’Cats stopped by Lions


MONROE — Ruston High sent a reminder to Ouachita High Friday night that there was another game to be played by the Lions before defending Class 5A Louisiana High School Athletic Association champion West Monroe comes calling.

The Bearcats (2-4, 0-1) kept the favored Lions (5-1) in a cautious mode before losing 48-33 in a District 2-5A opener for both schools.

Ruston took an early 6-0 lead on a three-yard run by slotback Chris Millage before Ouachita answered with four straight touchdowns, two provide by Diquan Wilson on a four-yard run and another on a 13-yard pass to Taijuan Thomas to make it 28-6 in the second quarter.
But the Bearcats got another TD off of a five-yard run by quarterback C.J. Gatlin with 13 seconds left in the second quarter and providing momentum going into the second half.
