It looks like fall weather has arrived in north Louisiana. The cooler weather has allowed many gardeners to spend much needed time outside.
Although the past summer’s growing season was very favorable for landscape plants and vegetable gardens, there are always problem areas where gardeners often ignore or haphazardly try to find a solution.
September is an excellent month to take a look at overall plant performance and decide on an action to correct any site problems or plant selections.
The final team activities of the 2013 recreation seasons are nearing an end and we are already looking ahead to 2014, but we would be in error not to congratulate those teams and individuals who helped make our programs a success.
Our Youth Flag Football is wrapping up with 10 teams participating in a six-week season. At this time, we thank our volunteer coaches. For the 5-6 year old division: Texans’ coach Matt Tyler, Colts’ coach Jeremiah Thomas, Titans’ coach Cameron Faniel and Jaguars’ coach Mike Hammons.
Madeline Williams, a graduate of Ruston High School, was named the recipient of First National Bank’s 2016 Jackie Woodard Whitlock Scholarship. Each year, graduating seniors from Lincoln Parish schools apply for the $1,500 scholarship. The selection of the recipient was made by a committee consisting of retired Lincoln Parish educators including Sarah Williams, Cliffo Crump and Sally Leachman. Williams will be attending Southern Arkansas University, where she plans to earn a four-year degree in Early Childhood Education.
