Evelyn Blaushild Cuny
Evelyn Blaushild Cuny passed away Saturday morning, January 5, 2013, peacefully at her home in her own bed, safe in the loving embrace of her two children, Donna Cuny of Montgomery, TX and Mark Cuny of Sacramento, CA and with her beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Winston, at her side.
Evelyn courageously fought cancer and won a difficult battle in order to be the primary caregiver for her husband, Theodore Cuny, (retired USAF) through his own struggles with Alzheimers disease. After his death, her cancer returned with a vengeance. Even her strength, courage and faith were not enough to defeat the disease this time.
Evelyn lived a full and eventful life during her 80 years on this earth. She was raised in northern Louisiana, attended Louisiana Tech where she met a young ROTC officer, Ted Cuny. After they wed and started a family, they traveled the world with the US Air Force. Evelyn excelled in her role as an officer’s wife; hosting dinners for foreign dignitaries, representing Ted at official functions, and volunteering in local communities. After his retirement Evelyn and Ted made a successful team in the field of financial planning. Her greatest accomplishment, however, was being a remarkable wife and mother.
Ted and Evelyn ultimately retired to Montgomery, TX , where they enjoyed raising horses in their “Golden Years”. Ted’s diagnosis of Alzheimers never slowed Evelyn’s matrimonial and maternal instincts. Watching her defeat cancer while taking care of Ted was the bravest thing her adult children had even seen. She prayed the Lord would keep her well long enough to care for her husband. When the cancer returned after his death, she faced her destiny with great dignity. She met her Maker serenely, confident in the knowledge she had lived a good Christian life, and that she and Ted had raised their children to be independent, strong and healthy.
Evelyn is also survived by her sisters, Marie Hood and Dorothy Mecom, and her brother Samuel Blaushild, Jr. She dearly loved and will be missed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation for Evelyn will be held Tuesday January 8, 2013 from 5 to 7 pm at Metcalf Funeral Directors located at 1801 E. White Oak Terrace Conroe, Texas with her graveside service on Wednesday January 9, 2013 at 2:30pm at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery located at 8801 Mansfield Rd Shreveport, LA 71108.
