The Ruston Junior High School McMarty Memorial Library hosted the fall Scholastic Book Fair Oct. 7. Each student had the opportunity to visit the book fair twice, once to shop and another to purchase. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to choose books aligned with their personal interests.
The 2014 Jonquil Jubilee Garden Tour will be held Saturday in Gibsland — ‘The Daffodil Capital of Louisiana.’
The hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the Jonquil Jubilee Pancake and Sausage Breakfast at the Gibsland Lions Club building for $5 starting at 8 a.m.
Those interested can participate in the Jonquil Jubilee 5k Run/Walk. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. at the Burkhalter Gazebo beside the railroad tracks. The race begins at 9 a.m. and participants can enjoy displays of daffodils during the run. To pre-register contact the Bienville Chamber of Commerce or call 548-2693.
Mark DeCoster, the James E. Wyche III Endowed Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Louisiana Tech University, will lead a team of Tech neuroscientists in presenting a lecture at the Society for Neuroscience’s (SfN) annual meeting on Monday in New Orleans.
The lecture titled, “Randomization of submaximal glutamate stimulus to interpret astrocyte effect on calcium dynamics,” will be featured as part of Neuroscience 2012 — SfN’s annual meeting that provides the world’s largest forum for neuroscientists to debut research and network with colleagues from around the world. More than 30,000 neuroscientists from around the world are expected to attend the event with more than 16,000 presentations scheduled to take place during the five-day conference.
