An Elvis Presley tribute show that’s been praised by some of Presley’s own band members and managers will roll out rock, gospel, country and movie tunes in Ruston in February.
Donny Edwards’ “A Tribute to Elvis” will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Dixie Center for the Arts, and a three-dimensional, music-making simulation of Presley’s career will impress audience members, Edwards said.
“Our show is about two hours, and it’s exciting to see people in their 20s loving Elvis’ music — even their little kids are loving Elvis,” said Edwards, a two-time world champion tribute artist, during a recent telephone interview from his Las Vegas home. “We’ve had a lot of compliments and comments from people — some of those people used to play in Elvis’ band and were his managers. It’s going to be an exciting show and an exciting time to be able to play for the people of Louisiana again.”
Founded in the fall of 2009, Louisiana Tech’s Lagniappe Ladies is the first major women’s initiative created for women who passionately support the mission and vision of the university. The group pools its membership fees and awards grants to campus projects, programs, and initiatives that it deems would make the most significant impact on the university and the community. The number of grant requests has grown significantly, and in the two years of the existence of the organization, grants totaling more than $70,000 have been awarded.
