School change and then some
Change, change, change ... and then some!
In the spring of 2012, the U.S. Justice Department ruled that the configuration of our city elementary schools must change in order to meet their desegregation requirements. In addition, Louisiana’s Department of Education also required significant changes for the 2012-13 year — a new teacher evaluation system and the shift from the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum to the Common Core Standards used by most states. Any one of these changes would have been a challenge in itself; however, all of them at once presented more “new” challenges than we have ever had to face in one new school year.
