Author to speak about Camp Ruston at museum
Camp Ruston was located on the property that was once the Ruston State School. This property is seven miles west of Ruston between Grambling and Simsboro. Camp Ruston sprawled over 750 acres and the camp was built in accordance with plans developed by the United States War Department.
The camp had more then 360 buildings and at its peak housed more than 5,000 people. This population included American soldiers and the prisoners of war, and it truly was a small city within itself. The T. L. James Company of Ruston was awarded the construction contract. The total cost was $2,500,000.
