They moved to Haughton, Louisiana, in 1968, then to Bossier City and finally settled in Minden, Louisiana, in 1973.Mom joined Emmanuel Baptist Church soon after moving to Minden and remained a faithful member and supporter of the church until her death. Church was an important part of her life. She loved to sing, was a soloist, and also a member of the choir. She worked in the church library and taught in the preschool children’s Sunday School classes. Mom loved little children and teaching them about Jesus.
Mom’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed working in her yard and gardening. She loved to cook for her family and friends and have warm gatherings around her table. She was the happiest when she was doing for others.
Mom worked as a substitute teacher in the Haughton and Bossier City school systems. After moving to Minden, she went to work at Minden Medical Center in the insurance department. She later accepted a job with the Women’s Clinic where she worked for Drs. Kemmerly and Lambard for many years until she retired.
She and Don loved to travel. In retirement, they made many trips together and with their “Wild Bunch.”
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Simpson, Lee Walker, Ralph Whitlock, Hebert Ferguson, Brandon Stone, Dustin Jenkins, Larry Pearson, and Perry Yancey.
Mom was a faithful supporter of many charities. She requested donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Emmanuel Baptist Church, Minden, Louisiana in lieu of flowers.
