Family Day in Park set for Saturday
Local students have a chance to have fun and go home with some loot this weekend during the seventh annual Family Day in the park Back-to-School Jamboree sponsored by the Tellis Cooper Foundation.
Joy Tellis Cooper, founder of the organization, is a Ruston native and comes back each year from her home in Atlanta to help children from her old neighborhood by handing out school supplies at the Jamboree.
“I’m giving back to my community,” Tellis Cooper said. “I understand the pressures that can be on parents to get school supplies, especially now that we’re going through an economic hardship. That’s why the foundation is trying to do what it’s doing.”
