IDEA Place thankful for assistance
The IDEA Place was quite busy during the month of June. This summer, four Summer Science Institute Camps took place drawing guests from as far as Hawaii. Camp topics included Getting Down on the Farm, a camp reflecting the science of agriculture; Swimming with the Fishies, a camp exploring organisms in a variety of bodies of water and water types; Get Fit with Sports, a camp focused on the science of athletics and nutrition; and Up, Up, and Out of This World, a week-long camp focusing on flight and space.
About 150 students attended the institute. This summer was particularly exciting as we were able to incorporate field trips into the week-long sessions. Each week, students participated in two field trips. Each Tuesday, students visited Margaret Anne Emory at the Lincoln Parish Museum, and learned of the importance of the corresponding topic in Lincoln Parish.
Many exciting speakers and guests came to share. Each Monday, students visited a venue directly related to the theme being addressed. This summer, campers had the opportunity to visit Louisiana Tech University’s South Campus and Tech Farm, the Lincoln Parish Park, the Thomas Assembly Center and Field House, and/or the Ruston Regional Airport depending on the camp for which they were registered.
