Consume, grow fresh produce
The Ruston Farmers Market will reopen from 7-11:30 a.m. Saturday with its fall festival.
There will be plenty of produce from eggplant to mixed greens and jalapenos. Value added products like jams, jellies, baked goods and even Mediterranean food will add to the wide assortment of available, locally produced food and goods. There will be live musical entertainment. Heifer International will have a booth, and there will be a baked goods fundraiser for a local Greek Orthodox church.
People should attend the market to support the community growers. By doing so, they will ensure that the farmers market and its vendors continue to thrive. A thriving farmers market is indicative of a healthy community. Eating fresh foods that travel fewer miles from the farmers’ fields to the plate is better for individuals and it’s better for the environment.
