Facility taking too much Sparta water?
Information available through the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) indicates that Arcadia Gas Storage (AGS) is pumping up to 3 million gallons of water per day in its operations to create caverns in local salt domes for the storage of natural gas. The latest data available on the water usage for all of Claiborne Parish is approximately 2.5 million gallons per day. In fact, nearly half of all the 19 parishes dependent upon the Sparta individually use less than AGS. The city of Minden reports usage of only 2.09 million gallons per day. Arcadia has one single entity — Arcadia Gas Storage — using more water every day than the entire city of Minden, or all of Claiborne Parish.
