The University of Louisiana System Board unanimously named Willie Larkin as Grambling State University’s next president.
“I’ve got a big job ahead of me, and I really owe it to a lot of people who have paved the way,” Larkin said. “I will do my very best every day to make sure that this board’s selection of me as the president was a wise decision, and I will validate that they were right in selecting me.”
Larkin is currently the chief of staff in the Office of the President at Morgan State University, but will fill his duties as GSU president for the 2015-16 school year.
The 95th Annual Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet will be held Jan. 29, 2015, at the Ruston Civic Center. During the event, community awards will be presented on behalf of various organizations to notable contributors to Ruston and Lincoln Parish.
Awards to be presented include:
• The Ruston Kiwanis’ Young Firefighter, Young Law Enforcement Officer, and Young Educator of the Year awards
• The Lincoln Parish School District’s Distinguished Partner in Education awards
• The Ruston-Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Hospitality award
Temple Baptist Church will try to “Heal Our Land” with the help of a standout singer-songwriter with local ties as it holds its 19th annual patriotic celebration starting at 7:30 p.m. today with doors opening at 7 p.m.
Louisiana Tech graduate and Christian Music Hall of Fame recording artist Wayne Watson will join the Temple Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra for the presentation, called “Heal Our Land,” which will feature songs that celebrate our nation’s birth and honor our service men and women.
