Bobby J. Conville Jr., left, presented a short history of Rotary International to the members of the Ruston Rotary Club. The program was a commemoration of the 69th anniversary of Rotary, which was celebrated in 1974. Ray Madden, right, vice president of the club, presented Conville a certificate. The Ruston Rotary Club was formed in 1943. At the time of this presentation, Dr. H. J. Sachs is the only resident charter member of the Ruston Club.

Individual property tax assessments have increased an average of 14 percent over the last four years, according to the recently completed reassessments done by the parish assessor’s office.
Assessments in Ruston and Choudrant have jumped an average of 15 percent, while those in Grambling, Dubach and Simsboro have either stayed approximately the same as they were in 2012 — the previous reassessment year — or risen only slightly.
Parish Assessor Sheila Bordelon attributed the increases to continuing residential and commercial growth.
Learning experiences about caring, sharing and doing for others were presented during the holiday season. The food drive project and a visit to the nursing home were the projects that the children participated in this year. The children and staff enjoyed a festive time with classroom doors decorated in a variety of ways.
The first can food drive conducted at Head Start was a great success.
