The SCILS Region 8 LaSTEM Center at Louisiana Tech University is set to hand out 50 free STEM kits during the 2022 Peach Fest. Developed by the SCILS team to complement the annual festival, the kits are focused around the children’s book “James and the Giant Peach” and feature a design activity that allows children to create the most effective zip line to get James down from the giant flying peach and help the insects on the ground. Kits include a copy of the book along with materials for the zip line experience and suggested instructions. Diane Madden, associate director of SciTEC, (left) and Lindsey Keith-Vincent, associate dean for research, outreach and innovation in the College of Education, explore the kits that will be available at the entrance of the Peach Fest Kids Alley located at Esma’s Alley and East Park Avenue on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. Leader photo by Cathi Cox-Boniol
