A.E. Phillips honors first responders

A.E. Phillips Laboratory School in Ruston held its annual Patriot Day program Friday morning to remember the 9/11 tragedy and honor first responders. Remembering Oscar Charles Williams and Dwight Levingston, part two

Dwight was two years older than me. He was a very good basketball player at Lincoln High School of Ruston. As a matter of fact, he held the state record for the most points scored in a basketball game. He scored 60 points but the record was broken by Bobby Joe Douglas of Marion.

Heavy metal music has never been a favorite of mine. However, the clips I have seen of some of the most popular bands leave me with a deep respect for their talent. A little research into the genre reveals that heavy metal is the most popular — and fastest-growing — subgroup of the rock music genre.

What is now the Federal Building was once the Ruston Post Office located on the corner of Vienna Street and Mississippi Avenue. Built in 1909, it served as the post office downtown until 1961. Andy Cross colorized the original photo.
