As part of its outreach to area veterans during the Fourth of July holiday, VFW Post 3615 and its Auxiliary honored Vietnam veteran Jim Kessler with a special presentation. Post Commander Tom Boniol and his wife Cathi visited Kessler to present him with a pillow and quilt made from retired American flags as well as an American flag cupcake cake. Kessler, a former member of the Lincoln Parish School Board, is homebound due to an ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis. The Post and Auxiliary further commemorated his service to the nation by making him a lifetime member of the VFW.
Funeral Services for Beverlee Joyce Biscomb James, age 82, of Ruston, are scheduled for Thursday, July 6, 2023, 11 a.m. at The Episcopal Church of The Redeemer.
The SCILS Region 8 LaSTEM Center partnered with the Union Parish Library to offer a STEM Day focused on “I Am an Engineer.” Summer school students, along with library patrons, attended two different sessions where participants engaged in an engineering careers candy bar relay, heard the book “Crane & Crane” as they looked at how the natural work mirrors the mechanical world, worked collaboratively to design and create cantilever arms and discovered more about different engineering pathways.
