Within six years after its founding, Ruston was known as a “baseball town.” The Baseball Field was what is now the 100 and 200 blocks of South Bonner street, bordered by the railroad, Texas avenue and South Sparta street (1959). Townspeople always attended the games in large numbers and were liberal in their support when the hat was passed during the game. Although the players did not receive any pay, the money was used to buy uniforms and equipment.
