The railroad officials imported a surveyor from New York to lay out the town, thus accounting for the unusual width and symmetry of Ruston’s streets. To this newlydivided tract of land was given the name “ Russ Town,” later changed to Ruston, in honor of the original landowner.

Those left behind deal with violence

In the last couple of weeks the small community of Jackson Parish has had to deal with three tragic deaths to gun violence. Two of those murders occurred within hours of each other on one senseless night. The other this week.

JPSO makes two arrests in series of homicides

The Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the murder of Devontre “Dee” Jackson, which occurred on Oct. 7, and has made an arrest in a third shooting death that took place Wednesday.
