The month of May is here and I’m glad. It was with mixed feelings that I ripped April off my calendar and bid it good bye with good riddance mixed with a measure of thanks. Let me explain.
A week or so ago, Tom and I sat in the den and watched “Carol Burnett – 90 Years of Laughter + Love.” The television special was a chance for some of the entertainment industry’s most acclaimed stars to come together and celebrate not only Burnett’s 90th birthday but also pay tribute to one of our most cherished comediennes.
In the fall of 1883, Dr. C.H. Griffin of Vienna opened Ruston’s first drugstore. This frame building was later to house the town’s first post office. L.F. Marbury and A.T. Jackson established the drug firm of Marbury & Jackson in 1884. In 1883 Mrs. William Harper opened the town’s first boarding house.
