I’ve decided our Dixie Center for the Arts has a little something in common with Forrest Gump. Those who have seen Oscar winner Tom Hanks in the Academy Award-winning film will recall one of his most famous catch-phrases, “Like is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.”

Even in the Deep South, October is a month of blazing color. In my own yard, despite the deadening drought we have endured this year, trees offer leaves of shining gold and yellow, rich russet and red, and green-veined burgundy.

I’m a big fan of catfish. I like to catch them and I especially love to sit down to a platter of crispy fried and tender catfish filets. I have a favorite spot where I go when my appetite is poking me in the ribs and telling me it’s time for a catfish meal.
