Former Ruston Police Chief Randal Hermes reached his tipping point in the summer of 2003 after he stood at the gravesides of two young local men, one 16, and the other 21, killed less than a month apart in alcoholrelated traffic crashes.
An 18-year-old Ruston man has been charged with one count of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile following an incident that reportedly happened Sunday night.
The Louisiana State Mesonet team was on site Tuesday at the Lincoln Parish Police Jury’s dirt pit on Big Creek Road in Dubach to erect the next weather data-collecting tower for the new statewide network. A project helmed by the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the Mesonet will collect a variety of weather data from 50 towers across the state. Live data for each site will be available to the public online.

Members of Mount Harmony Baptist Church in Ruston recently took their “Souls to the Polls” to encourage early voting and making early voting a family tradition. While early voting ended Tuesday, the deadline for the registrar of voters to receive a voter absentee ballot is Monday by 4:30 p.m. (other than military and overseas voters). The polls will open again on Election Day (Tuesday) from 6-8 p.m.
FARMERVILLE — The former Louisiana State Trooper initially charged with negligent homicide in the 2019 death of Black motorist Ronald Greene will serve no jail time after accepting a plea deal amid protests from Greene’s family.
It was an enjoyable time for all Sunday afternoon when Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston held its Trunk or Treat event at the church on Tech Drive. A good time was had by all age groups.
