With the help of several area schools, the SCILS Region 8 LASTEM Center at Louisiana Tech University recently set the tone for its 2024-25 programming.
A Ruston man whom police found sitting on a couch eating while another man lay on the floor bleeding from the back of the head, and a half-clothed Castor woman discovered slumped on the steps of a residence were arrested in separate incidents Tuesday by local law enforcement agencies.

Weather permitting, the City of Ruston has announced that E. Line Avenue, between Vernon Street and S. Bonner Street, will be closed to through traffic beginning 8 a.m. Monday until further notice. This closure is necessary to allow for utility line replacement(s).
The No. 1 Ruston Bearcats will travel to Texas for the third straight weekend Saturday to face Texas Class 4A No. 1 Stephenville at 2 p.m., in Longview’s Lobos Stadium.
A closed-casket memorial service will be held for Rufus Washington, Jr., at 2 pm, Monday, October 7, 2024, at King’s Funeral Home, in Ruston. Visitation will be held at 12-2 p.m., closed-casket, prior to the service.
