Adrienne Walswort

Funeral services for Adrienne Walsworth of Ruston will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 10am at the Quitman Baptist Church in Quitman, LA with Bro. Donald Rudd and Bro. David Walsworth officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 4-9pm at Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Mrs. Walsworth was born on February 8, 1935 and passed away on October 22, 2014. She was 79.

Ruston Fire hosts eighth annual event

More than 650 adults and children came out Saturday to the eighth annual Hot Halloween, which was hosted by the Ruston Fire Department.
On hand were Louisiana Tech University nursing students and junior and high school members of the Future Business Leaders of America.
Children attended the event to participate in games and were allowed to climb on the fire trucks. Pictured above is young “police officer” Asher Darden, 3, enjoying the day on a fire truck.

Attempted murder suspect still at large

The search continues for a Ruston man charged with attempted murder in the Oct. 17 shooting of another man.
Keon Mayfield, 30, whose last known address was on Eastland Avenue, remains at large, Ruston Police Department Deputy Chief Clint Williams said this morning.
“We are still looking for him,” Williams said.
Officers thought they had Mayfield cornered Saturday at a residence on Duque Drive, but he wasn’t there.

Amendment 8 to protect usage of AFD

Editor’s Note: Louisiana voters will be asked to decide on 14 proposed amendments to the Louisiana Constitution on the Nov. 4 ballot. The Leader will be running a series of articles provided by the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana to better inform voters about the issues that will be on the ballot.
Amendment No. 8 will ask voters to protect the Artificial Reef Development Fund from being utilized when the state government needs cash to balance the budget.

DART’s candlelight vigil: Remembering the slain

For the 14th consecutive year, a throng of scarlet, life-sized silhouettes is standing sentinel in Ruston. This year, they are displayed in front of The Bridge Community Church, at the intersection of Kentucky and Highway 167 North.
The growing number of figures serves as a raw and vivid reminder of the lethal impact domestic violence has had upon dozens of families in our community. Each silhouette represents an actual person, someone whose life has been claimed by an intimate partner.

Tech soccer bounces back to beat Marshall

It was another crucial game that resulted in another crucial win for Louisiana Tech.
Down 1-0 at halftime, the Lady Techsters scored two second half goals to complete the comeback with a 2-1 win over Marshall on Sunday evening at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
With the victory, Tech (12-5-2, 4-4-1 Conference USA) swept the pair of weekend matches and is now right in the thick of earning a trip to the Conference USA tournament.

USM nets sweep of Lady Techsters

Louisiana Tech had almost as many errors as it did kills, which resulted in a 3-0 (14-25, 12-25, 17-25) loss to Southern Miss in Conference USA volleyball action on Sunday afternoon at Reed Green Coliseum.
Southern Miss (18-9, 7-3 C-USA) totaled 40 kills and just 13 errors in the match, which led to a .293 attacking percentage as a team.
Tech (9-15, 1-9 C-USA) could not keep up with the Golden Eagles fast start, as the Lady Techsters ended up with 24 kills and 21 errors for a .031 hitting mark for the match.
