Techsters to face Charlotte

in

Louisiana Tech will close out the home portion of its schedule this week when the Lady Techsters play two important Conference USA contests, beginning with an afternoon start against Charlotte.
That contest is the first game of a basketball doubleheader at the Thomas Assembly Center and will tip off at 4:30 p.m. today followed by the Bulldogs against Alabama-Birmingham at 8 p.m. The game can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM and KTKC 92.9 FM with the pregame show starting at 4 p.m. Fans can also watch it through a paid subscription to CUSATV.com.

With five conference games remaining, Louisiana Tech will now face five straight opponents for a second time this season starting with hosting Alabama-Birmingham at 8 p.m. today inside the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court.
The game will be nationally-televised on the CBS Sports Network with Chris Hassel and Mike O’Donnell calling the action.
Fans can also listen to the Voice of the Bulldogs Dave Nitz and Jack Thigpen call the game on the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston) and KRMD 100.7 FM (Shreveport) as well as on the Louisiana Tech X mobile app.

Prep girls hoops playoffs set to start

Five parish teams in postseason action, three to tip things off at home today

Five Lincoln Parish prep girls basketball teams picked up berths for postseason play and four of those teams will start the playoffs off at home.
Ruston High School (22-11) is one of the teams that will tip things off at home as the 11th-seeded Bearcats will play host to No. 22 seed Chalmette at 5:30 p.m. today in a Class 5A first-round contest.
The Bearcats are led by senior Amani McWain, who is averaging a double-double and signed in November to play collegiately at Southern University.

Chemistry lecturer receives award for sugar research

Marsha Cole, lecturer of chemistry at Louisiana Tech University, has received the International Frank M. Chapman Memorial Poster Award for her research in the sugar industry.
Cole received the award from the Sugar Industry Technologists for her research into the “Development of a Factory/Refinery Method to Measure Total, Soluble, and Insoluble Starch in Sugar Products.”
Cole said she is honored by the recognition.

Lessons to be learned at the Lorraine Motel

The view of the Lorraine Motel balcony in Memphis, Tennessee, would leave any American speechless.
It’s hard to believe that the nostalgic 60s exterior hotel inside a booming 21st century metropolis was the setting of one of our country’s greatest tragedies.
But despite all of the progress made around Memphis, there still lies the memorial remembering Martin Luther King Jr. and where he was assassinated.

Student deserves top 10 spot

There may be 99 other candidates who deserve a spot in The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards’ top 10 youth volunteers for 2018, but we’ll be biased and say Cedar Creek School junior Olivia Cuthbert deserves one spot.
Olivia, 16, is one of two Louisiana representative’s vying for the recognition that will be announced during a weeklong trip in late April to Washington, D.C.
During the trip, Prudential Spirit will name 10 students from 100 candidates, two from each state, to be named America’s top youth volunteers of 2018.

DAC burglary suspects apprehended

A Monroe man remains in jail and a 15-year-old juvenile is in his mother’s custody following a burglary caught on camera at Louisiana Tech University’s Davison Athletic Complex.
Michael Parker, 19, of 142 Duffy Lee Road in Monroe, is charged with resisting an officer, simple burglary and simply burglary of an inhabited dwelling.
