Remembering George Bush with Grace

It would be hard to find anyone who could come close to receiving the love and respect shown the late President George H. W. Bush.
He personified everything that would be considered the finest etiquette, i.e. civility, manners, respect for others, integrity, dignity and decorum ­— the gentleman of all gentlemen.
It got me to thinking about the legacy of various people I know ­— co-workers, friends, family.
Maybe it’s time to think about our own legacy.

Sounds of season upon us

Of all the elements of holiday celebrations in American culture, one of the most integral practices for many people is the playing of Christmas music.
From retail stores to radio stations to private homes, familiar songs singing the praises of the Christmas season ring out with seemingly ubiquitous consistency each December.
Lincoln Parish is no exception — locals who want to experience the Christmas spirit through music in the community have plenty of options, and most of them offer a different sound than you’d hear on the radio.

GSU’s Christmas, McWilliams awarded

GRAMBLING — Grambling State University senior linebacker De’Arius Christmas and junior defensive back Joseph McWilliams were named on Monday HBCU BOXTOROW All-Americans.
Christmas, was tabbed the Southwestern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-SWAC honors as Grambling State placed four student-athletes on the all-conference teams. Joining Christmas on the first team was defensive back Joseph McWilliams. Defensive linemen Anfernee Mullins and defensive back Percy Cargo, Jr. were named to the All-SWAC Second Team.

Whitworth is NFL Man of the Year nominee

All-Pro left tackle Andrew Whitworth of the Los Angeles Rams has made good use of his 13 years in the National Football League.
The former West Monroe High/LSU All-American continues to make serving his community a top priority.
In October, in partnership with Make-A-Wish Tri-Counties, the Rams hosted the “LA Rams Night for Wishes” charity event to raise funds to fulfill the wishes of local children battling life-threatening illnesses.

Ferguson earns more All-America honors

Louisiana Tech’s Jaylon Ferguson continues to garner national recognition for his on-field performance this season as the senior defensive end has been named Third Team All-America by the Associated Press.
Ferguson was also named a Second Team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation late last week, while the nation’s active career sack leader was also voted as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday of last week.

Trump says military to build wall if Democrats refuse

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump sought today to pressure Democratic congressional leaders into supporting his demand for billions of dollars to build his promised wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, threatening to have the military build it “if Democrats do not give us the votes to secure our Country.”
Trump tweeted the threat hours before Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi were to meet with Trump at the White House in an effort to avert a partial government shutdown on Dec. 21, when funding for some agencies is scheduled to expire.
