A drone capture shows snow and ice covering I-20 and surrounding streets in Ruston Tuesday.
Despite this afternoon’s sunny skies, roads across Lincoln Parish remain dangerous.
“It’s slicker now than it was at 5 o’clock this morning,” Lincoln Parish Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Landon Hunt said.
That’s mostly because the sheet of slushy ice and snow keeps refreezing, often into invisible black ice. Authorities say they know people want to get out, but the best plan remains to stay home.
A hard freeze warning is in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday. Tonight’s low is expected to drop to around 13 degrees.
Law enforcement agencies report a number of traffic accidents including several vehicle rollovers and motorists sliding off roadways into ditches or into utility poles or other solid objects.
All parish roads and Ruston city streets are open. The railroad bridges at Bonner Street, Everett Street, and Farmerville Street remain closed.
