Lincoln Parish results from Saturday’s statewide presidential preference primary show local Democrats overwhelmingly backed President Joe Biden as the potential nominee, while Republicans went equally strong for presumptive GOP nominee former President Donald Trump.

Complete but unofficial returns show Biden won the parish Democrat primary with 89% of the 1,242 votes cast. Trump won the local Republican primary with 88% of the 1,513 votes cast in that race.

Louisiana’s presidential primary is a closed election, meaning only registered Democrats and Republicans can vote.

Approximately 13% of Lincoln Parish Democrats turned out to vote, while 15% of parish Republicans went to the polls.

Also in Saturday’s local balloting Ruston resident Rosy Bromell beat challenger Jill Hines, also of Ruston, for the District 35A seat on the Republican State Central Committee. Bromell received 440 votes, or 66% of the 664 votes cast. Hines got 224 votes, or 34%.

In RSCC District 35F race, Gary Nunn, of Quitman, beat Blake Wheelis, of Choudrant, by slightly more than a 2:1 margin. Nunn won 486 votes, or 70%, to Wheelis’ 206 votes, or 30%.

The District 35F race includes precincts in Lincoln, Jackson, and Ouachita parishes. Nunn carried Lincoln and Jackson, while Wheelis carried Ouachita. Wheelis has an insurance agency in Ouachita Parish.

In the Democrat State Central Committee District 11A seat, Danielle Williams, of Grambling, beat Kai Macias, of Ruston, in a race that covered parts of Lincoln and Bienville parishes and all of Claiborne Parish.

Williams won 1,255 votes, or 88% of the vote, to Macias’ 178 votes, or 12%. Williams carried all three parishes.

In the race for the DSCC District 11B seat, Frederick Young, of Homer, beat two challengers to win. Young won 59% of the vote, or 855 votes. Challenger Richard Anderson, of Ruston, ran second with 484 votes, or 33%, while Bobby Woodruff, also of Ruston, picked up 64 votes, or 8%. Young carried the precincts in Bienville and Claiborne parishes, and while he won the most votes in Lincoln Parish, none of the three candidates polled 50% or more in Lincoln.

Young finished with 49% of the Lincoln Parish vote to Anderson’s 42%.

In the race for the DSCC District 12B seat, Downsville Mayor Reggie Skains came out on top.

Skains won 52% of the vote, or 397 of the 760 votes cast. Challenger Conrad Cable, of Farmerville, came in second with 26%, or 194 votes, followed by Benjamin Eunice, of Ruston, with 22%, or 169 votes.

The race covered all of Union Parish and part of Lincoln Parish. Skains won 61% of the Union Parish vote and 42% of the Lincoln Parish vote. Cable finished second in both parishes.
