Ronnie Milsap recently played his last Nashville concert with a show at Music City’s Bridgestone Arena. The wildly talented and consistently heralded entertainer was the focus of a tribute extravaganza featuring everyone from Kelly Clarkson to Keith Urban.

When Sophie Edwards, Kappa Delta’s Vice President for Events and Programming at Louisiana Tech University, was attending the sorority’s national convention over the summer, she struck up a conversation with folks from Alabama. Edwards mentioned her team wanted to host a fall philanthropy event to help the chapter complete its goal of raising $75,000 in support of the Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home and Prevent Child Abuse America.

The land which was to become the town site of Ruston was originally part of a plantation owned by Robert E. Russ, who with his mother and stepfather, moved from Florida in 1852 to Jackson Parish. Mr. Russ had bought the land from Wooten Richardson. Mr. Russ, born in Florida in 1830, married Miss Mary Elizabeth Randle of Minden in 1855.
