GRAMBLING — Traditionally, Grambling State University (GSU) has held its Founder’s Day observance beginning in September but this year’s celebration will begin Nov. 1. The date is significant because it will mark 20 years of educational excellence for GSU.

To mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and salute those who answered the call to arms following the terrorist attacks, PJ’s Coffee created a display honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The display featured the following nine men from North Louisiana who valiantly served in combat operations and never made it home: Cpl. Christopher Grant (Richwood), Cpl. Matthew Barnes (West Monroe), Sgt. Nicholas Olivier (Ruston), HM3 Lee Deal (West Monroe), Sgt. Joshua Madden (Minden), Cpl. Jon Bowman (Dubach), Spc. Charles Leonard (Monroe), Cpl. Chad Powell (West Monroe), and Sgt. Joe Wrightsman (Jonesboro).

Gathering at The Preserve turns violent Sunday night

The Ruston Police Department responded to a call about a loud party at The Preserves at Tech apartment complex on Sunday night. Fredrick Lamond Smith, Jr., 18, of Bernice was arrested when he allegedly pulled a gun on a woman and police officers.
