GSU legend Robert Williams to be inducted into SWAC Hall of Fame

B I R M INGHAM — Grambling State University legendary pitcher Robert J. Williams was announced on Tuesday as an inductee to the Southwestern Athletic Conference 2022 Hall of Fame Class. The enshrinement will be held at 7 p.m. on Dec. 16 at the Omni Hotel in Atlanta. Williams was instrumental in Grambling State’s run of four straight SWAC titles during 1960-64. He was an outstanding pitcher who maintained and established a record of 35-1. In addition, he was honored and selected to be a member of the All- American baseball team for three years. He later played Minor League Baseball and coached American Legion baseball during summers.

Panthers look forward to new opportunity in playoffs

Lincoln Prep is grateful to have another shot in their season. After an inconsistent regular season ended with a 3-7 record, the Panthers will have their chance to make a postseason run as the No. 23 seed in the Division IV select bracket against the No. 10 Ascension Catholic Bulldogs on Friday. The game will be played in Donaldsonville at 7 p.m. – close to a four and a half hour drive for the Panthers.
