Boys and Girls
Club Week
The Boys and Girls Clubs of North Louisiana are celebrating Boys and Girls Clubs week.
It all begins at 1o:30 a.m. Sunday, April 7 with Club Worship at Ruston Church of Christ located at 1804 North Trenton Street.
Club members at asked to wear a BGC shirt or blue. Food will be served following the service.
On Monday, reading literacy will be promoted with a Stop. Drop. & Read Program.
Tuesday will bring community service day at a cleanup of Lincoln Parish Park.
And on Wednesday, the Club will hold a Triple Play Day of Fun from 4-6 p.m. at Louisiana Tech University.
Concert set at Temple Baptist
The Louisiana Baptist Singing Women and the Louisiana Baptist Singing Ministers will present a joint concert at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Ruston’s Temple Baptist Church.
The concert is free and open to the public. Both the Singing Women and Singing Ministers are audition choirs made up of Southern Baptist Church choir members around the state with several being from the Ruston area. Concerts are given once a month at a different location locations statewide.
The women’s choir is directed by Ray Ford and Richard Beeman and accompanied by Teresa Thomason, Louisiana Baptist Convention keyboard specialist. Herb Armentrout is director of the men’s choir.
Nighttime I-20
lane closure
Nightly lane closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on I-20 between mile markers 80 and 93 begin Sunday, April 7 and continue through May 3. At least one lane will remain open in the work area for construction. The lane closure is necessary to allow construction to do concrete work on the existing roadway.

Blizzard Blitz
aids special
campers
A Blizzard Blitz fundraiser set for Thursdasy will support special needs children attending Camp ABLE. The camp is held at Camp Hardtner in Pollock and is a project of Louisiana Easter Seals. Sponsor of the event is the Zeta Rho chapter of the service group Epsilon Sigma Alpha.
From each Blizzard ice cream treat sold at Dairy Queen at 1428 Cooktown Road in Ruston, $1 will be donated to the cause. No flier or mention of the fundraiser is required when ordering. The event will last from 10 a.m. until closing.
Easter Seals has been one of ESA International’s projects since 1984, with members helping raise more than $5.9 million.

The North Central Louisiana Master Gardeners spring plant sale is from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. April 13 at the Ruston Farmer’s Market on East Mississippi Ave.
Genealogical group to meet
The Northeast Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society will meet at 2:30 p.m. April 14 at the Ouachita Parish Public Library Main Branch, located at 1800 Stubbs Ave. in Monroe.
Elaine Thompson, a professor at ULM, will present the program, “Finding History in Your Own Back Yard.”
Dinner theater tickets on sale
FARMERVILLE — Tickets are on sale for the “Stars Over Broadway” dinner theater set for 6 p.m. May 2 at the Edgewood Plantation near Farmerville. The event, featuring the O Sole Trio, is presented by the Union Museum of History and Art.
Tickets are $32 for adults, $26 for seniors (age 65 and older). Tables are $275 and seat eight people.

Make pottery
at Poverty
Point
Poverty Point World Heritage Site is offering a ranger-led demonstration of crafting prehistoric-styled pottery similar to the pieces which the Native Americans fashioned more than 3,500 years ago at 10:30 a.m. April 13.
Attendees can try their hand at creating items such as figurines, decorated artistic objects, coiled clay pots, and clay pipes – inspired by those that have been excavated from the site. All of the clay and other materials needed will be provided.
It is recommended to wear or bring appropriate clothes for working with potentially messy clay.
The $4 admission fee provides access to the museum, film theatre, hiking trail, driving tour, seasonal tram tour, and interpretive events.
Children age 3 and under, and senior citizens age 62 and over will be admitted free of charge.
