Santa and his helpers at Ruston Animal Control are making special deliveries this year. On Christmas Eve, they’ll take five newly adopted pets to their furever homes.
At least two more Christmas adoptees will be picked up at the shelter that day by their new families, RAC Director Bill Sanderson said Tuesday.
That leaves only a couple of cats and about 10 dogs at the shelter that are eligible for adoption, with a few more delivery times available.
All totaled, at least 15 animals have been adopted this month.
“It’s been an unbelievable month,” Sanderson said. “I’m tickled to death the way the community has reached out.”
Only two kittens are left at the shelter; one of those is ready for adoption, he said. Next week, a female adult cat will also be moved to the potential adoption list.
“This season of the year you have a lot of people looking to adopt and make a pet part of the family,” Sanderson said. “You have to give the community huge credit for doing adoption.”
