City invites students to use free Wi-Fi

Thursday, April 9, 2020

The city of Ruston is inviting students who need access to Wi-Fi to complete their online lessons and don’t have access at home to come to one of four municipal parking lots and connect to free service.

The parking lots at the Historic Fire Station downtown, City Hall, and the “B” and “C” areas at the sports complex on U.S. 167 South are all available, Mayor Ronny Walker said Wednesday.

At City Hall, the strongest signal is on the north side of the building. The Wi-Fi name for the City Hall and Historic Fire Station connection is “Public WiFi.”

The network at the sports complex “B” baseball parking lot is named “Ruston Sports Complex,” and the network at the “C” softball and tennis parking lot is “City of Ruston Wireless WiFi.”

Though some online resources have been available for students since Lincoln Parish schools closed because of the coronavirus on March 16, this week the district has ramped up distance learning coursework for all grades.
