FEMA registration still open
FEMA representatives will begin a second round of registration at mobile intake centers in Lincoln Parish on Monday.
Any resident who had damage to his or her home as a result of Hurricane Laura may visit any of the sites to sign up as the first step in determining whether he or she may qualify for FEMA’s individual assistance program.
“You’ve got someone there who knows the FEMA process and can help you,” FEMA Media Relations Specialist Hattie Stallworth said.
As of Friday morning, only about 200 people parishwide had registered during the first week of signup. Residents can register regardless of whether they have homeowners’ insurance, Stallworth said.
People who have ex perienced difficulty registering with FEMA online may also go to the mobile sites for assistance, Lincoln Parish Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Kip Franklin said.
“This includes anyone who has attempted to register for reimbursement for generators, chain saws or other eligible equipment,” Franklin said.
Anyone who bought or rented a generator or chainsaw, or who purchased smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, dehumidifiers and weather radios because of the storm, may be eligible for reimbursement.
The rental or purchase must have been done within 30 days of August 22, the beginning of the incident period for Hurricane Laura.
