GRAMBLING — Grambling State University students now have a new place to get free professional attire as they pursue career opportunities.
The university’s Center for Career and Professional Development on Wednesday unveiled a new Career Closet inside the Favrot Student Union, where students can make an appointment to try on new and gently used professional items from suits to shoes and take them home at no charge.
The Career Closet was immediately put to use to help students prepare for the career fair held Thursday.
“The way people have showed up and contributed to this has been great,” said Antoinette Livingston, director of the Center for Career and Professional Development. “ Alumni coming in for homecoming have been asked to bring a new or gently used item to donate, and we’ve gotten hundreds of items.”
With more than 95% of GSU students on some type of financial aid, administrators and staff said the vision for the Career Closet was to provide a space that takes one burden away from young professionals who are trying to find their way.
“When we have young men who look like us going to engineering conferences, the last thing they should be worrying about is what am I going to wear,” Livingston said.
The space is open Monday through Friday from
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment only. To donate items, visit tinyurl.com/2b3d5mhf to fill out the donation form.
