Head over heels during Love Your Library Month
Fall in love with all your local library has to offer this month during Library Lovers Month at Lincoln Parish Library.
This month the library looks to highlight Black History Month with a program series, poster exhibit and three personal collection exhibits.
Vernita Morgan, of El Dorado, Arkansas, will be in the Community Room discussing African American genealogy and how to trace family lineage. While at the library, patrons can explore the personal collections of Bernetta Johnson and Fred Hardy in the library lobby display cases and a poster exhibit highlighting some of Black History Month’s most influential figures on loan from Dr. Liz White.
Denene Stringfellow will perform a Tribute to African American Music later in the month that touches on gospel music and its roots in the South.
Interested in free, educational workshops? Patrons wanting to participate in workshops have many opportunities to attend free of charge at the Events Center this month. The offerings include a mini floral class, a money management class with Centric Federal Credit Union and an air fryer workshop with LSUAgCenter.
“Patrons interested in participating in the free air fryer workshop need to call Cathy Judd at the LSUAg-Center to sign up,” said Marketing Coordinator Kacey Richard. “We will be providing food for participants to experiment with and need an accurate signup number.
This class is going to be very fun and educational. We are pleased to offer this class in partnership with LSUAgCenter.” To register, contact Cathy Judd at 251-5134.
For Library Lovers Month, Adults will enjoy a Blind Date with a Book reading challenge where they select a book wrapped in paper with a plot teaser on the cover and a Chinese New Year lantern take-home craft.
“We have a special local book spotlight on Feb. 12, in the Community Room that highlights a local illustrator, Michael Garriga and his writing partner Abbey Luckett Benjamin,” said Richard. “They will offer two readings and book signings at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and have books and stickers available for purchase. We want to invite the community to join us.”
In addition to local creatives, the library will also host 4 Paws Rescue for a quarterly puppy adoption day on Feb 12.
“4 Paws needs help with visibility and we are happy to work with them to offer quarterly adoption days at the Library,” said Richard. “If you’re not looking to adopt a puppy right now, this is a great chance to come and snuggle some of these cuties. If you are looking for a puppy, this is perfect timing.”
The library’s Children’s Department is offering weekly story times on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and will start offering a French story time every other with Valerie Graham on Saturday at 10 a.m. beginning Feb. 19.
“We have a nice starter collection of French early learning reading material in the Children’s Dept. and are looking to add to our bilingual collection in the future,” said Richard. “The more these types of books are checked out the more of a priority it becomes for us to add to the collection.”
At the Library is submitted by staff at the Lincoln Parish Library in Ruston each month.
