Hit and run death being investigated

The Ruston Police Department is investigating the hit and run death of 21-year-old Jeremiah Cox, who was found on Highway 80 East late Thursday night.

RPD responded to the call of a person lying in the roadway on the 4200 block of Highway 80 at approximately 11:10 p.m.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they found Cox unresponsive in the westbound lane, and he appeared to have been hit by a vehicle. Officers began to immediately perform life-saving measures until the paramedics and EMTs arrived. Despite first responders’ efforts, Cox was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are still searching for clues as to what exactly happened and are asking for the public’s help in their efforts.
