As part of the 6th Annual Kicking it with the Kiddos event, a back to school drive was held July 22 at the newly-opened Lincoln Preparatory School campus in Grambling. Students arrived early that morning with their own backpacks ready to get them filled with supplies.
There were local sponsors, corporate sponsors and volunteers ready and available to make this a successful event, according to Monique Pruitt. Also teachers of Lincoln Prep were also ready and available to make this experience even more special.
Pruitt started this event back in 2017 partnering with The Greater Grambling Chamber of Commerce. She said, “It brings my heart joy with this project because I’m elevating the community by doing what God has placed on my heart.”
She added, “There are times when I have had no sponsors, and I did it all alone by myself, especially during the pandemic, because I knew it was a difficult time for everyone financially.”The Grambling High School alumni Class of 2003 incorporated volunteering with the back to school drive as a part of their celebration for 20 years being out of high school.
Even though Grambling Lab no longer exists, alumni will still keep the “Kitten Pride” legacy alive. The 7th annual Kicking it With the Kiddos back to school drive will return again next year.
