Local pilot helps ferry vaccine

Shawn Washam flies 747 cargo jets for New York-based Atlas Air. His payload generally includes the usual assortment of packages and equipment.
But now, the Ruston resident and Louisiana Tech University aviation graduate is also flying the COVID-19 vaccine. Atlas is involved in the global distribution of the vaccine.
“It’s an important cargo. You take a little extra care to make sure everything goes right,” Washam said.
So far, he’s ferried vaccine to Cincinnati, New York and Miami.
“It feels good to be doing your part,” Washam said.
