The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office has erected a new birdhouse outside of the Lincoln Parish Public Safety Complex. The birdhouse was built by inmates of the Lincoln Parish Detention Center and placed Thursday.
“We had one over at the detention center about two years ago that was slammed with martins,” Sheriff Stephen Williams said. “We asked them to build us another one, they got it done and put it up (Thursday).”
The purple martin is the largest swallow and is known for cutting down on insect problems, mainly mosquitoes.
