Top: In honor of soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice on Memorial Day, Owens Funeral Home placed flags around the Forest Lawn Cemetery on Monday. These flags are placed around a monument inscribed with the 23rd Psalm.
Bottom: Sam Mattox, a World War II veteran, gathers with other veterans and their families at the Cook Baptist Church Memorial Day Fish Fry on Monday afternoon. Mattox, 101, was the oldest veteran in attendance. Mattox served in the U.S. Army, finished his career as a corporal and saw action in the Southwest Pacific war theater.
