Strong winds could not deter Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church in Dubach from holding its annual Veterans Day celebration Saturday. Inside the cemetery next door, which holds more than 30 local veterans laid to rest, the church unveiled a new plaque dedicated to CPL. Earl Campbell, the now-deceased veteran who founded Mt. Zion’s Veterans Day event.

Pictured at top, a memorial wreath makes its way through a path of American flags to join Campbell’s plaque while his friends and family look on.

Pictured second, Evelyn Shorts performs a stirring rendition of “America the Beautiful” while Deacon Phil Frost stands by.

Pictured third, a new plaque dedicated to Campbell, pictured under the blanket, will join the memorial marker dedicated in 2019 to the 30 veterans buried in the Mt. Zion cemetery.

Pictured fourth, Mt. Zion pastor E.C. Morgan gives opening remarks before a socially distanced crowd in the church parking lot.

Pictured at bottom, Ronnie Lyons, of VFW Post 593 in Grambling and a former American Legion vice commander, delivers the veterans memorial tribute.
