Candidate qualifying for the open 3rd Judicial District Division A judgeship begins Wednesday in the Lincoln and Union Parish Clerk of Court’s offices.

Because the 3rd Judicial District includes both parishes, a potential candidate who is a Union Parish resident would qualify there.

The three-day qualifying period for the Oct. 9 primary ends at 4:20 p.m. Friday.

So far, only one person — Ruston attorney Monique Clement — has announced intentions of running. The judgeship came open earlier this year when former Division A District Judge Jeff Robinson moved to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.

Clement, a Republican, announced her candidacy in May. In 2018, she ran unsuccessfully for the Division C judgeship against now-Judge Bruce Hampton.
