Outdoor fitness facility nears completion

Ruston’s new outdoor fitness facility located adjacent to the Rock Island Greenway near Henderson Street and West California Avenue is almost ready. The finishing touches on the 38-by-38 foot court are expected to be complete within the next few weeks. The facility features a seven-station bodyweight circuit training court that can be completed in seven minutes. Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker and District 1 Alderwoman Carolyn Cage checked out the course Wednesday afternoon (pictured above). Ruston is one of 200 sites nationwide where the National Fitness Campaign is rolling out Fitness Courts ® this year. The fitness facility was paid for by grants from the NFC and Lincoln Health Foundation. The hard-surface greenway pathway is complete from California Avenue southward to Tennessee Avenue. Eventually, the multi-use greenway will strengthen the north-south length of Ruston along the abandoned Rock Island Railroad bed.
