Panel Discussion
Bryan Zygmont, Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Professor of Art History, and Saul Zalesch, retired Professor of Art History, will engage in a panel discussion as a part of the Masur Museum of Art’s Jewish Heritage Film Festival.
The professors will discuss The Rape of Europa along with ULM’s Dr. Jana Giles, Professor in English Literature. The festival takes place in conjunction with the Theo Tobiasse: Textural Emergence exhibition, and the discussion will be held at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16 in the Louisiana Room at the Monroe Civic Center’s Convention Center.
“The Rape of Europa is a riveting documentary that tells the important story of Adolph Hitler’s unrealized goal of creating the Fuhrermuseum in his hometown of Linz, Austria, by the looting of churches, private collections, and public museums across Europe,” Zygmont said. “The film not only explores the theft but also the diligent work of the people who have located and returned the cultural treasures the Nazis stole. This is a story not only about art, but also about power, politics, war, and the enduring value of objects.”
The event is free and open to the public. This program is funded under a grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
