Ruston Artisans gets in on fashion action
Ruston Artisans will host its second annual Fashion Karaoke Competition in conjunction with Louisiana Tech University’s Event Planning in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Studies program from 7 - 10 p.m. Saturday, April 6.
Singers from the area auditioned, and 10 contestants were selected to compete and to be styled by fashion students in clothing from local merchants.
Ruston Artisans co-owner Judi Null said this year’s singers are top-notch.
“The singers we have performing this year are absolutely fabulous,” Null said. “They are so talented, and we are really happy to show off their skills.”
The first place karaoke winner will receive $500, and student stylists will have the chance to win Best in Show for their fashion selections, staging and marketing efforts.
Null said this year students would receive a grade for their participation in the event.
“The Tech students have done a wonderful job styling our tables for the event,” Null said. “This year we will have a catwalk stage, and we will be featuring art motifs by local artist Ashley Greer.”
Attendees will be treated to a light show and receive special glasses to experience the fashion action in 3D.
Null said a portion of the sales from the events will be donated to a scholarship fund.
The event will commence with an opening reception from 7- 7:30 p.m.
