Free COVID-19 vaccinations were offered for the first time on Louisiana Tech University campus Thursday as the vaccine clinic offered by the Louisiana National Guard and Louisiana Department of Health got underway.

The Guard and LDH are providing the immunizations at the Ropp Center every Tuesday and Thursday in addition to free COVID-19 testing every weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

These services are open to students, faculty, staff and the community at large.

Guardsmen on site Thursday morning said they had vaccinated five or six people in the first hour and a half of the program.

Representatives with the state were on hand to give students who got the vaccine $100 as part of the Shot for $100 incentive program. Any student who gets vaccinated at a participating Louisiana university will receive a $100 Visa card while supplies last.

“Just walk in and get your shot or get tested today!” Tech President Les Guice said in an online campus update Thursday. “It’s easy and the best way to help keep our campus community safe and healthy this fall.”

Beginning with November’s registration for winter quarter, Tech students will be required to provide proof of vaccination, a medical exemption, or a written dissent in order to register for classes.
