Teen shot in alleged attempted murder

A 19-year-old Ruston man has been charged with attempted second-degree murder after a juvenile was hit by a bullet in the area of Duncan Park on Arlington Street.

City police arrested Jarell Dean on Wednesday.

On June 9, Ruston police received a complaint about a shooting near Duncan Park. Officers arrived to find a 13-year-old male in a nearby house and with a gunshot wound to his right side.

Investigators were able to identify Dean as a suspect in the shooting and obtained a warrant for his arrest on the attempted murder charge.

He was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on $50,000 bond.

Details on the victim’s condition weren’t available.
