Land purchased by Willis Knighton Medical Center off Willow Glen Drive in Ruston is located just south of I-20 next to El Jarrito restaurant.
The Shreveport-based Willis Knighton Medical Center is requesting a variance for a digital billboard the corporation apparently plans to erect on property it bought in April fronting the I-20 south service road.
Ruston’s Board of Adjustments has set a hearing on the case for Monday afternoon.
The medical center is asking for the sign panels on each side of the billboard to be larger than the 500 square feet allowed by Ruston’s zoning ordinance. They apparently also want the sign to be brighter both during the day and at night than the ordinance allows.
If the billboard is approved and eventually erected, it will be the first digital billboard in Ruston.
Though Willis Knighton Communications Manager Terrie Roberts confirmed the medical center’s intent to put up the billboard, she said she doesn’t know what the sign’s going to say. She also said she had no information on whether Willis Knighton plans to build a hospital or clinic in Ruston.
Willis Knighton already has a presence in Ruston, offering OB/ GYN, orthopedics, family medicine, cardiology, and pediatrics services, according to the health center’s website.
Records on file at the Lincoln Parish Clerk of Court’s office show than in late April, Willis Knighton bought the 18.3 wooded acres adjacent to and east of Willow Glen Drive from local businessman James E. Davison Jr., for $2 million.
